J. Edward Knight Insurance is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and supporting the communities we serve in Midcoast Maine. These guidelines outline our approach to donations and sponsorships, ensuring our contributions make a positive impact and reflect our commitment to giving back.

We understand that there are many worthy causes in our community. While we would love to support them all, we have a set budget for donations and sponsorships to ensure our giving is sustainable. 

These guidelines help us focus our support on organizations that align with our values and can benefit most from our contributions. We appreciate your understanding that not all donation requests will be approved. This in no way reflects the value of your organization or event. We wish you the very best in your fundraising endeavors, regardless of our ability to contribute.

Guiding Principles

  • Community Focus: We prioritize organizations that serve the residents of Midcoast Maine, focusing on areas such as education, initiatives for children, art and culture, land conservancy, and more. 
  • Financial Responsibility: We maintain a budget for donations and sponsorships, ensuring our contributions are sustainable. 
  • Transparency and Accountability: We will be transparent about our giving and hold ourselves accountable to support organizations that are reputable and use funds effectively. 
  • No Conflict of Interest: We will avoid donations or sponsorships that create a conflict of interest with our core business or insurance products. 
  • Employee Engagement: We encourage employee volunteerism and may consider sponsorships that support employee-driven initiatives. 

Guiding Principles

  • Dress Down for a Cause: Every Friday, our employees have the opportunity to dress casually by donating $2.00. The collected funds are then pooled and donated to a worthy cause chosen by our employees every two months.
  • Financial Donations: We offer financial support to qualified non-profit organizations.
  • In-Kind Donations: We may donate resources such as office supplies or educational materials.
  • Volunteer Time: We encourage employees to volunteer their time with approved organizations.
  • Sponsorships: We sponsor events or programs that align with our mission and community focus.

Ineligible Requests

J. Edward Knight Insurance will not consider donations or sponsorships for the following:

  • Individuals
  • Political campaigns or lobbying efforts
  • Religious organizations (except for disaster relief or broadly-focused community programs)
  • Organizations promoting discrimination or hate speech
  • Organizations with poor financial management practices

Application Process

Organizations seeking a donation or sponsorship from J. Edward Knight Insurance should submit a written request that includes:

  • A brief description of the organization and its mission
  • Details of the specific request (amount, type of support)
  • How the donation or sponsorship will be used and its benefit to the community
  • Proof of non-profit status (for donations)
  • Financial statements (for larger requests)
